Support for energy-intensive companies approved

In order to prevent carbon leakage, the EU Commission had approved aid for energy-intensive companies in the amount of about €27.5 billion, with which a part of the CO2 price on electricity is to be reimbursed by the state for the years 2021 to 2030. In return, the companies concerned must implement measures for more energy efficiency or cover at least 30% of their electricity consumption from renewable energy sources. In addition, companies must make additional investments from 2023 onwards so that a total of at least 50% of the aid amount is used to implement measures for the efficient use of energy or the decarbonisation of their production process.
